SheerPower 4GL -- a Brief History

SheerPower 4GL for Windows is based on INTOUCH 4GL which runs on high-end OpenVMS systems. INTOUCH 4GL was released in 1985 and is still used today by major corporations and institutions world-wide such as Lockheed Martin, BEA Systems, United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Continental Insurance, University of New Hampshire, and many more.

It took four years (1982-1985) to initially develop INTOUCH 4GL. And to date, over 40 man years have gone into its further development. In 1998 we started a major enhancement and reimplementation project. This project resulted in what you see today -- SheerPower 4GL for Windows.

Much of our development time included the design and patent work for SheerPower's Perfect Precision Math package as well as its INPUT DIALOGBOX and INPUT MENU features. Our first approach to our math package was very much the same as Microsoft's new ".net decimal" datatype. But, we found that this technology was very inefficient. So, after much work, we invented our own high-efficiency MATH datatype. Our Perfect Precision Math datatype is very fast!
